A Cold Winter Walk in Cambridge

This morning in Cambridge was icy and quiet.
The roads were frozen, so instead of driving, I walked with my son to his orthodontist appointment.

It usually takes seven minutes by car.
Today, it took us forty minutes on foot.

The cold air was sharp, and the pavements were slippery.
We walked slowly, carefully, one step at a time.

Small winter moments

Along the way, I noticed things I usually miss.
A small robin hopping near a hedge.
Grass covered in white frost, glowing softly in the morning light.

It was very cold, but also very beautiful.
These are winter scenes you only see for a short time.

Moments like this remind me to slow down.

Cold weather and the body

On mornings like this, I really feel the cold in my body.
My shoulders tense up, my hands feel stiff, and my breath becomes shallow.

Cold weather asks us to move more gently.
To warm the body slowly, with care.

This is when I naturally turn to aroma.

Essential oils for cold days

In winter, I like essential oils that feel warming and grounding.
They help the body feel held and supported.

I often use them in a warm bath,
or mixed into a gentle massage oil at the end of the day.

The scent itself feels like a quiet blanket —
soft, comforting, and steady.

On very cold days, I often choose ginger and mandarin essential oils.

Ginger has a deep, warming quality.
It helps the body feel warmer from the inside, especially on icy mornings.

Mandarin adds softness.
Its gentle citrus scent feels comforting and quietly uplifting, without being too bright.

Together, they create a sense of warmth and ease —
perfect for winter evenings, a warm bath, or gentle self-massage.

A quiet ending

Winter has its own rhythm.
It slows us down and invites us inward.

On cold days, scent becomes a small companion.
Something simple that brings warmth, calm, and balance back to the body.

Even on the iciest mornings,
there is always something gentle to notice.
